The IRS has expanded the business tax account to millions of entities — including partnerships, Indian tribal governments, tax-exempt organizations, and government bodies — that did not previously have access to the online, self-service platform.
“Digital access will reduce the burden on these taxpayers because they no longer will be limited to paper and phone interactions to perform simple tasks with the IRS,” IRS CEO Frank Bisignano said Monday in a news release.
The newly eligible entities, which include federal, state, and local governments, join sole proprietors, S corporations, and C corporations on the list of those able to access the platform.
A business tax account is a secure, centralized platform that allows users to manage their federal tax responsibilities online, including:
- View tax balances, make payments, and see payment history;
- Download select digital notices;
- View eligible transcripts, such as payroll and income;
- Request a tax compliance check; and
- See the business name and address on file with the IRS.
In December 2024, the IRS made business tax accounts available to C corporations, which it said extended the tool’s reach to millions of business entities.
