Student overcomes background to earn Medal of Inspiration

Jeffrey Deyoe, a student at the University of Colorado Boulder, received Beta Alpha Psi’s Medal of Inspiration Award.

The award, sponsored by the AICPA, is bestowed upon an accounting student who has experienced extreme hardships and demonstrated an unusually high level of success despite that adversity. The award includes a $5,000 cash stipend.

Deyoe, who grew up in a troubled home affected by addiction, has achieved academic success despite those years of adversity. His academic performance suffered early, but he began to turn his life around after high school, when a friend’s family took him into their home under the condition that he attend community college, from which he graduated with a 3.86 GPA.

He was then accepted at the University of Colorado Boulder in 2017 and is currently pursuing a business degree with a dual concentration in accounting and finance. He has earned a spot on the dean’s list every semester, serves on the Leeds Council student government, and is the pledge vice president of finance for Delta Sigma Pi. He also is slated to serve as chapter president of Beta Alpha Psi, the AICPA-sponsored honor organization for financial information students and professionals. Deyoe is also an active volunteer, participating in a student mentor program and as an intern at Stone Pine Accounting Services at the Denver Tech Center.
