AICPA’s highest award honors outstanding contributions to the profession

George W. Krull Jr. and Bruce Webb received the 2017 Gold Medal Award of Distinction, which is the highest accolade the AICPA awards to CPAs who have made outstanding contributions to the profession.

Krull, a retired partner at Grant Thornton LLP, focuses on accounting education in his involvement with the AICPA and other organizations, and he continues to support Grant Thornton’s college and university recruiting efforts. As a member of the firm’s Professional Standards Group, Krull worked on the implementation of automated audit and control software, was the chief learning officer, and served on a wide range of volunteer educational committees. He was also a founding member of the Sponsoring Group of the Pathways Commission, which is the national commission on accounting education.

Krull has served on numerous AICPA committees and task forces, has been involved in the AICPA Foundation and the Accounting Doctoral Scholars program, and was a founding member of the AICPA’s National Commission on Diversity and Inclusion.

Webb, a member (emeritus) of the Dean’s Advisory Council for the College of Business at Iowa State University, held various roles at McGladrey (now RSM), including executive partner in charge of the firm’s national professional standards group.

He also served as a member and chaired the AICPA Professional Ethics Executive Committee and the AICPA Auditing Standards Board, led the AICPA Audit Issues Task Force, served on the Center for Audit Quality’s Professional Practice Executive Committee, and began chairing the AICPA Assurance Research Advisory Group in 2016.
