Microsoft Excel: Correcting an MROUNDing error

In the July 2018 item “Microsoft Office: Rounding Time in Excel,” this column stated that “the MROUND function always rounds up, away from zero.” It should have stated that “the MROUND function always rounds up, away from zero, when the number is greater than or equal to half the value of the multiple.” For example, assuming a multiple of 6, the MROUND function will round the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 to 0, 0, 6, 6, 6, and 6 (values that are all multiples of 6). The numbers 1 and 2 are rounded down because they are lower than half the value of 6, which, of course, is 3. Thanks to Mark Huff, CPA, for bringing this to our attention.
