Michael Granof, professor at The University of Texas at Austin, received the 2017 AICPA Distinguished Achievement in Accounting Education Award, which recognizes full-time college accounting educators for excellence in teaching and national prominence in the accounting profession.
In his four decades as an educator, Granof has authored a textbook on accounting for governmental and not-for-profit entities and has had a graduate school award established in his honor. He has also served the profession in a number of volunteer roles and received many accolades, including the 2010 Enduring Lifetime Contribution Award from the Government and Nonprofit Section of the American Accounting Association.
Granof is a past member of the U.S. Comptroller General’s Advisory Council on Government Auditing Standards and the Association of Government Accountants’ Financial Management Standards Board and is the only academic to have served concurrently on both GASB and the Federal Accounting Standards Advisory Board.
