94 minority accounting students earn scholarships

Ninety-four accounting students from across the United States and its territories received AICPA Scholarship for Minority Accounting Students awards for the 2016—17 academic year.

The selection involved consideration of both academic performance and leadership capability.

The AICPA Scholarship for Minority Accounting Students is one of the four scholarship awards available through the AICPA Legacy Scholars program. Recipients receive a one-year AICPA scholarship and develop career skills by completing at least eight hours of service each semester planning and implementing events on campus that advocate the accounting profession. Legacy Scholarship applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and have completed at least 30 semester hours in college-level coursework, including six semester hours in accounting.

A task force comprising AICPA Student Recruitment Committee members and CPA volunteers selected the recipients based on academic achievement, demonstration of leadership and volunteerism, and overall commitment to becoming a licensed CPA.
