CPAs honored for outstanding service in government

The AICPA has presented three CPAs with Outstanding CPA in Government Awards.

The Outstanding CPA in Government Career Contribution Award recognizes significant contributions to the CPA profession through government service at the local, state, or federal level over a candidate’s career.

Sam McCall, chief audit officer at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Fla., received the 2016 Career Contribution Award. Previously, McCall was the auditor for the city of Tallahassee for 13 years and Florida deputy auditor general for 13 years. He also is a member of the Federal Accounting Standards Advisory Board.

The Outstanding CPA in Government Impact Awards recognize recent significant contributions of CPAs to the efficiency, effectiveness, or innovative service delivery of their local, state, or federal employer organizations.

Paul Curtis, director of financial audits for the Office of Audit for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, received the federal level award. Since 2003, his audits of the EPA’s financial statements have resulted in improved business operations and identified millions of dollars in savings.

Kristen Scalise, fiscal officer for Summit County, Ohio, received the local level award. She has managed the county divisions of Auditor, Recorder, and Treasurer since 2011 and has streamlined appraisal and tax collection processes and increased collection of delinquent property taxes.
