Thompson receives highest AICPA honor in tax

Patricia A. Thompson received the 2014 Arthur J. Dixon Memorial Award, the highest honor bestowed by the accounting profession in the area of taxation.

The annual award, given by the AICPA Tax Division, is named in honor of Dixon, chairman of the Tax Executive Committee from 1977 to 1980, who had an outstanding record of service to the profession and to the division.

Thompson, a tax partner with Piccerelli Gilstein & Co. LLP in Providence, R.I., focuses on closely held business owners and their businesses in the manufacturing, real estate, service, and wholesale industries. She has testified before Congress, the IRS, the IRS Oversight Board, and the Rhode Island Legislature. In 2009, she was a member of the Rhode Island Governor’s Tax Policy Strategy Workgroup.

In her 20 years of volunteer service to the Institute, she has chaired and served on the AICPA Tax Executive Committee and the Individual Taxation Committee and chaired the Tax Executive Committee’s Strategic Planning Task Force. She now serves on the IRS Advocacy & Relations Committee, the Tax Reform Task Force, and the AICPA Nominations Committee. She has been a member of several AICPA and other organizations’ committees.
