AICPA President and CEO honored by NABA

AICPA President and CEO Barry Melancon received a 2013 Legacy Award from the National Association of Black Accountants Inc. The awards recognize leaders of organizations that have shown long-standing support for NABA’s members and the profession.

The awards are scheduled to be presented June 7 at NABA’s awards gala in Nashville, Tenn., and the honorees will be featured in a video showing the impact their service has had on NABA’s members.

Melancon has challenged the Institute to generate ideas that will result in increased retention and advancement of underrepresented minorities in the accounting profession. Last fall, as part of a renewed focus on diversity, the AICPA created the National Commission on Diversity & Inclusion, which includes representatives from minority professional groups, firms, state societies, and business leaders, to develop strategies that will help ensure CPAs reflect the clients and communities they serve.

“Barry has made attending all the National Commission meetings a priority and actively participates in discussions and decisions that lay the foundation for sustainable improvement in our inclusion efforts,” said Kimberly Brown Drumgo, AICPA director–Diversity & Inclusion. “His ultimate goal is to bring leaders of the profession together and, through their collective efforts, demonstrate progress.”
