Professor receives Distinguished Achievement in Accounting Education Award

William F. Messier Jr., CPA, the Kenneth and Tracy Knauss Endowed Chair in Accounting at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, received the Institute’s 2012 Distinguished Achievement in Accounting Education Award.

The award recognizes full-time college accounting professors who excel as educators and who have achieved national prominence in the profession.

Greg Anton, then-chairman of the AICPA board of directors, presented the award at the fall meeting of the Institute’s governing Council. “His work involving audit litigation support, CPE, and his writings on audit theory clearly stand out,” Anton said.

Messier also serves as the PwC Professor II in the Department of Accounting, Auditing and Law at the Norwegian School of Economics, Bergen, Norway. In 2011, he received an honorary doctorate in economics from the Norwegian School of Economics. In addition, he served as the academic member of the AICPA Auditing Standards Board and was chair of the Institute’s International Auditing Standards Subcommittee.
