Award honors significant contributions to PFP discipline

Clark M. Blackman II, founder of Alpha Wealth Strategies in Houston, received the AICPA’s 2012 Personal Financial Planning Distinguished Service Award.

The annual award, which was presented at the 2013 Advanced Personal Financial Planning Conference in Las Vegas in January, recognizes an AICPA volunteer who significantly contributes to the advancement of personal financial planning as a practice discipline.

Blackman has been active in the PFP division for two decades and is the immediate past chair of the division’s executive committee. He has worked to strengthen ties with state societies, enhance the Institute’s annual financial planning conference, and develop tools and guides to help CPAs expand their practices to include financial planning services. Under his leadership, the PFP executive committee received standard-setting authority last fall from the AICPA governing Council.

Blackman has had several articles published over the last 15 years, including in the JofA, and has been a featured speaker at national conferences. He also serves on the JofA’s Board of Editorial Advisers. He was inducted into the AICPA Business & Industry Hall of Fame in October 2005.
