Young CPA receives inaugural Maximo Mukelabai Award

Donny Shimamoto

Donny Shimamoto, 36, founder and managing director of IntrapriseTechKnowlogies LLC, received the first Maximo Mukelabai Award in recognition of his contributions to building the CPA pipeline, serving as an advocate of the accounting profession, and performing outstanding community service.

The award was created to honor the legacy of Maximo Mukelabai, a member of the inaugural class of the AICPA Leadership Academy and the youngest chair of the North Carolina Association of CPAs board of directors. Mukelabai died last year at age 36.

The award was established to recognize a CPA under 40 who:

  • Demonstrates passion and eagerness to encourage students’ interest in accounting as a career.
  • Contributes recommendations and best practices to help improve processes and activities.
  • Serves on committees and participates in other volunteer activities related to the advancement of the profession.
  • Shows involvement in community-based organizations to help improve the lives of people.


“I am humbled to have been chosen as the first recipient of the AICPA’s Maximo Mukelabai Award. Max and I attended the first AICPA Leadership Academy together and bonded over our shared desire to work to increase diversity within the accounting profession,” said Shimamoto in a news release. “I am honored to be able to represent and continue Max’s legacy.”
