Kess and Voynich receive Gold Medal for contributions to the profession
Sidney Kess and S. Scott Voynich received the Institute’s 2011 Gold Medal Award for Distinguished Service, which is given to individuals who have made major contributions to the CPA profession and is the highest award granted to a CPA by the Institute.
Kess, who is of counsel to Kostelanetz & Fink LLP in New York, is a frequent lecturer and author or coauthor of hundreds of publications, courses, videos and practice aids on income tax and financial and estate planning for the AICPA and other organizations. In 2010, the Institute established the Sidney Kess Award for Excellence in Continuing Education to recognize individual CPAs who have made significant and outstanding contributions in tax and financial planning and whose public service exemplifies the profession’s finest values and ethics. Kess, who was the first recipient, has also received the Institute’s Special Recognition and Distinguished Lecturer awards.
Voynich, managing partner of Robinson, Grimes & Co. PC, Columbus, Ga., served as the AICPA chair from 2003 to 2004 and was president of the Georgia Society of CPAs from 1994 to 1995. He has lobbied nationally on behalf of the profession and was involved with the Institute’s Federal Key Person Program. He served on the Institute’s State Legislation Committee during the development of the Uniform Accountancy Act and served as chairman of the Special Committee on Mobility, which helped overcome legislative challenges of cross-border practice.
