Institute Names New General Counsel and Secretary
Michael J. Buddendeck is the Institute’s new general counsel and secretary.
In this position, Buddendeck is responsible for providing legal counsel on all AICPA-related professional and corporate issues. He previously was assistant general counsel, a position he had held since 2007.
Buddendeck began his career in private practice as an attorney at the law firm Morgan Lewis in Washington. He also practiced at Greenberg Traurig before working as assistant general counsel for a Georgia-based transportation and distribution company.
He succeeds Richard I. Miller, who retired July 31 after serving as the AICPA’s general counsel and secretary since 1993.
Miller was the legal adviser of the AICPA’s Governing Council and Board of Directors; advised committees on the Institute’s standard-setting processes; testified before Congress on the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act; and was instrumental in developing and implementing the contracts establishing CPA2Biz as the for-profit subsidiary of the AICPA.
