Road Trip
Just a comment on the lighter side for a change: When the December 2010 issue of my JofA arrived, I immediately noticed the title on the cover, “Listening to Main Street.” As a Route 66 aficionado, it reminded me of the classic nickname given to that fabled, historic highway: “Main Street of America.”
OK, not a big deal … so far. But then, in “The Last Word” column on the back page, in the story about DeAnn Hill, there is a long paragraph about the location of her hometown, Baxter Springs, Kan., on Route 66! What an odd coincidence that this story would appear in the magazine with that cover.
I’ve driven Route 66 from end to end, and the 13-mile Kansas section several times. Baxter Springs is indeed one of the “Mother Road’s” historic towns.
Thank you for adding “The Last Word” feature a few years back. It’s one of my favorite columns; it shows that accountants are real people, too.
