Return the Run Menu to Its Start Position

Q: What happened to the Run menu? I recently upgraded from my beloved XP to Windows 7, and when I went to access one of my favorite tools, Run, I discovered it was gone, busted, missing. What’s going on? I want my Run back.

 

A: Worry not. It’s there. In fact, in Windows 7 it’s even more accessible. Just press the Windows Key+R (for Run).

 

But if you would rather return the Run command to its traditional location, in the Start menu, right-click Start, choose Properties, select the Start Menu tab and Customize and cursor down to the Run command and check it. Finally, click OK.

For those not familiar with Run, I suggest you explore this useful function. Run lets you initiate a wide variety of tasks by typing a command code in the Open box. Here are just a few of the applications and their commands:

 

  • The Calculator: calc
  • Screen Magnifier: magnify
  • Paint graphics accessory: mspaint
  • Notepad: notepad
