Revised CITP Credential to Take Into Account Experience and Similar Credentials

The AICPA has revamped its Certified Information Technology Professional (CITP) credential to reward real-world experience, lifelong learning and to recognize similar credentials from other organizations.

The Institute announced these revisions at its AICPA TECH+ Conference in Las Vegas.

The CITP credential, launched in 2000, recognizes accounting professionals who combine IT expertise with the unique skill set of a CPA. Currently, more than 1,400 CPAs hold the CITP credential.

As CPAs have taken on more responsibility in the areas of data security and reliability, the Institute updated the credential’s body of knowledge to emphasize expertise related to audit and attest services and financial data components, analysis and reporting.

Requirements to obtain the CITP are being revised to include the following criteria:

• A valid unrevoked CPA license.
• Five years of experience in accounting.
• Minimum of 1,000 hours experience in areas pertaining to the body of knowledge.
• Minimum of 75 hours of education in areas pertaining to the body of knowledge.

Credit toward qualifying may be earned for holding certain related credentials, including ISACA’s Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT (CGEIT), ISACA’s Certified Information Security Manger (CISM), ISACA’s Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF), and Certified Internal Auditor (CIA).
