Minority Initiatives Committee Earns Diversity Section Excellence Award

The AICPA’s Minority Initiatives Committee (MIC) received the 2009 Diversity Section Excellence Award from the American Accounting Association.

The award recognizes section members whose service has been exemplary and is given to individuals and organizations who have made sustained and significant contributions to the productivity and success of the AAA’s Diversity Section.

Candidates are evaluated based on the achievement and high level of success that may include public service in an area related to the individual’s professional area and responsibilities, professional service and/or service activities to AAA and the Diversity Section.

The MIC has demonstrated a long-standing commitment to assisting underrepresented minorities in becoming

CPAs through scholarships, leadership development programs, advertising campaigns and the support of efforts by strategic partners, including the National Association of Black Accountants and the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting.

The committee’s commitment to supporting and encouraging diverse representation in academia includes its ongoing financial support of the AAA Diversity Section and the PhD Project and its Fellowship for Minority Doctoral Students.
