Learning From Your Mistakes

Here are some tips for making the most of those times when you’re not at your best:

Own up. Don’t cover up a mistake. Admit it to those who need to know and move on.

React and repair together. Once the mistake has been identified, brainstorm with your team on how to correct it as quickly as possible. Fixing the mistake with some help will move you toward solutions to reach goals.

Learn/educate. Everyone on the team should learn a lesson from the mistake. Communicate what problems contributed to the error and discuss what new information was learned.

Keep perspective. Look at the mistake as another step in the process of reaching a goal. The mistake might even spawn new ideas that had not been previously considered.

Move on fearlessly. Try new ideas and free your team to do the same. Keep future mistakes in a positive light.
