| Michael D. Shmerling of Tennessee and Schenck Business Solutions of Wisconsin each received the AICPA’s 2007 Public Service Award. Shmerling, chairman of Choice Food Group and recipient of the award for an individual, served on the boards of prominent state and local organizations, including the Tennessee Performing Arts Center and the Tennessee Society of CPAs. He is founder and chairman of Abe’s Garden, a not-for-profit organization that is developing an Alzheimer’s and dementia facility. He also serves on the boards of Fisk University, Renewal House, The Hermitage, Monroe Carrell Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt University, Nashville Alliance for Public Education, United Way of Metropolitan Nashville, and Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee. Schenck Business Solutions, recipient of the firm recognition award, was honored for its commitment to corporate citizenship. Shareholder Karin Gale accepted the award for Schenck. Volunteerism is a key component of the performance evaluation for shareholders within the company and is encouraged among employees. The firm has supported the Greater Green Bay Women’s Fund, United Way of Waukesha County, Green Bay Habitat for Humanity, the Greater Milwaukee Area United Way, McKey Christmas Club, Junior Achievement and many others. |
