To the optimist, the glass is half full.
To the pessimist, the glass is half empty.
To the accountant, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.
As accountant jokes go, that one’s pretty good. But if you want to hear more, or think you have a better one, consider the Atlanta’s Funniest Accountants contest ( www.accountantsarefunnytoo.com ). Reigning champ Jason McCarthy, CPA, says his friends had to talk him into auditioning last year. But after going through the contest’s “comedy boot camp” training program and winning the grand-prize trip to Vegas, he’s been bitten by the show biz bug and has continued to perform in amateur comedy shows.
“Comedy is my golf,” he says. “There’s something very redeeming about getting in front of people you don’t know and making them laugh.”
McCarthy will be defending his title at the next contest, scheduled for the week of Oct. 17. It will be sponsored by the placement firm Accountants One, and proceeds will go to Tech Corps Georgia, a not-for-profit that refurbishes and donates computers to low-income families.
