James Don Edwards, CPA, had the honor of running in his son’s footsteps this summer. As part of a worldwide relay commemorating the 2004 Olympic Games, Edwards carried the symbolic torch through the streets of Atlanta. Edwards’ son, recovering from a serious illness, was a torchbearer when the games were held in that city in 1996. A prominent accounting educator, Edwards is a member of the Accounting Hall of Fame, retired J.M. Tull Professor of Accounting at the University of Georgia, author of A History of Public Accounting in the United States, a former member of the AICPA board of directors and a recipient of the Gold Medal Award, the Institute’s highest honor.
