The AICPA presented Gerhard G. Mueller with its annual Distinguished Achievement in Accounting Education Award at the spring council meeting. The award recognizes full-time college accounting educators for excellence in teaching and national prominence in the accounting profession.
Mueller was appointed as FASB’s academic member in 1996 and continues to serve in that capacity. In addition, as chairman of the accounting education change commission, he led the effort to improve the nation’s accounting education programs.
With the commission’s support, a group of 12 innovative educational programs conducted experimental research aimed at preparing students for actual practice in the profession. The researchers’ findings significantly influenced educators across the country and led to the development of modern courses and textbooks that accurately reflect current conditions in the professional environment.
