Charles A. Bowsher, chairman of the Public Oversight Board of the AICPA’s SEC practice section, presented Ralph S. Saul with the 1999 John J. McCloy Award for outstanding contributions to the auditing profession in the United States. Saul, a former president of the American Stock Exchange, currently serves on the POB’s panel on audit effectiveness. He was a member of its 1994 advisory panel on auditor independence and served on the AICPA board of directors from 1986 to 1991.
The award commemorates John J. McCloy, a former POB and Chase Manhattan Bank chairman, who, as U.S. Military Governor and High Commissioner, helped establish a free-market economy in post-war Germany.
