As corporate growth fueled a soaring economy in 1999, companies eagerly recruited executives to keep their expansion on course. A survey of hiring for more than 20,000 executive and senior management positions revealed overall demand grew by 26%, outstripping 1998’s gain of 19%. Virtually every industry took part in the hiring binge, with consulting posting the solitary decline (-5%).
