One Million Sign to Scrap Tax Code

On October 28, 1998, the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) obtained its one millionth signature in a crusade to abolish the Internal Revenue Code.

At a rally celebrating the milestone, Jack Faris, president of the NFIB, said it would keep the effort to scrap the code going strong.

The NFIB advocates replacing the current tax code with a simpler, more equitable system.

We have well over a million signatures now, said Angela Jones, a spokesperson in the Washington, D.C., public policy office of the NFIB. The group continues to collect 5,000 new signed petitions every week.

We wont give up, Faris said of the NFIBs efforts to influence tax policy. We will be a catalyst, urging Congress to sunset the tax code as the first step toward responsible tax reform.
