Minority Students Receive Scholarships
F or over 20 years, the American Institute of CPAs Foundation has given annual scholarships to minority students. Undergraduate and graduate students are eligible for awards up to $5,000 to encourage their entry into the accounting profession.
For the 1996-97 academic year, the AICPA disbursed $597,000 to 288 students at 172 schools. The AICPA has donated more than $6 million to the program since its inception.
A related program is the Accounting Scholars Leadership Workshop, begun in 1995. The AICPA invites select award recipients to a conference for several days of leadership development. Accounting firms and companies provide instructors to expand students knowledge of the accounting profession.
