Alan R. Einhorn, national director of the Quality Assurance Group for Deloitte Tax LLP, is the new chair of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountant’s Tax Executive Committee.
Einhorn will lead the AICPA’s senior tax committee for the next two years. The Tax Executive Committee establishes tax policy for the Institute and functions as a clearinghouse for the work produced by other AICPA tax committees and technical resource panels regarding technical and administrative issues that affect taxpayers.
“I am looking forward to the opportunity to chair the AICPA Tax Executive Committee,” Einhorn said. “I want to concentrate on continuing the good work we’ve done so far to establish strong relationships with tax policy makers at the Treasury and IRS and on Capitol Hill.”
“Alan is a tremendous asset,” said Tom Ochsenschlager, vice president of taxation for the AICPA. “We’re going to see a lot of attention to tax policy issues as a new administration and Congress take office and they continue efforts to stabilize the economy. Alan’s keen understanding of the regulatory and legislative processes, as well as of the needs of taxpayers and tax preparers, will be invaluable.”
Ochsenschlager said Einhorn received the AICPA Tax Section Distinguished Service Award for 2007-2008 as a result of his leadership on the AICPA’s successful efforts to have Congress correct a flaw in a 2007 law that raised the tax return reporting standards for tax return preparers to a level higher than that required of taxpayers. Congress equalized the standards for taxpayers and tax preparers as part of the financial markets rescue package that President Bush signed into law on Oct 3. When the AICPA presented the award to Einhorn in June, Ochsenschlager said, “The entire profession owes a debt of gratitude to Alan.”
Einhorn’s long history of volunteer service to the AICPA began in 1987. Highlights include his chairmanship for three years of the AICPA Tax Forms Committee, as well as membership on the Tax Practice Responsibilities Committee and numerous task forces. Einhorn was a member of the Tax Executive Committee for four years before becoming chair.
Einhorn works with Deloitte Tax LLP in a number of areas including ethics and professional standards and taxpayer and preparer responsibilities. He’s integrally involved in coordinating the firm’s tax quality assurance reviews and reviewing the firm’s tax quality assurance guidance.
He received his BS in accounting from the University of Maryland and his JD from George Washington University.
