Students can also access a database to research job requirements and pay rates for various temporary positions.

Help for CPA Exam Candidates

This online resource, from AccountingNet, gives students preparing to take the CPA exam guidance on how to study, strategies for taking it and tips on minimizing test anxiety.

Arlene Ravalo’s homepage should help students better understand the CPA exam process: she shares her personal experience of taking it and has a section for comments by others who have passed. She also includes a helpful list of links to 10 more accounting-related sites.

For the Politically Minded

The 1999–2000 online edition of the Almanac of Politics and Government is available under the heading “Guests” and includes detailed information and statistics on all things political—calendars, world governments, parties, documents, economics, history and all three U.S. government branches. Also included are links to other global, national and local government agencies.

A Credit to the Web

Central Data Technologies’ site includes information on thousands of open and closed Chapter 11 cases from more than 30 courts, including all active court sites in the Fourth Circuit and Washington, D.C., for registered users (registration is quick and free). Also available are links to other
bankruptcy resources.

A Search for Security’s Sake

This site was created by students in the Information System Security program at Algonquin College in Ontario, Canada, as a study aid for their one-year course, but it now has a permanent place on the Web. Over 6,500 security-related articles and links are included as well as message boards and chat rooms for related information.

USA Global Link, Inc.’s site truly is a one-stop shopping experience. Members (membership is free) can find items of interest in dozens of categories, use the site’s price comparison engine to get the best buy and then go directly to the link for the seller’s site to purchase items.

Want to liven up your spreadsheets with some color and graphical elements? Kelly L. Williams, CPA, Ph.D., shows how to use Excel sparklines, which illustrate data trends and patterns via small charts that fit in a single Excel cell.


What’s next for potential CPA licensure changes
