Display Underlying Excel Formulas

By Stanley Zarowin
January 2006

Is there a way to display all the underlying formulas in an Excel spreadsheet?

Sure. The convenient way (that allows you to toggle back and forth between formulas and results) is to press Ctrl+~ (the tilde button is at the extreme upper left side of the keyboard). If you print while in that mode, all the formulas, not the results, will print. Press Ctrl+~ again and the worksheet returns to the results view.

If you want a worksheet to always show formulas, click on Tools , Options , View and place a check in the Formulas box (see screenshot at right).
