Q. I’m not a computer nerd, but I would like to be able to fine-tune my computer so it will run at optimum speed and so I can clean up any lingering setup problems. What do you suggest?
A. There are several programs on the market that promise to do all sorts of tune-ups. I’ve tried several, and my favorite so far is Mijenix Fix-It Utilities 99. For some reason, Fix-It isn’t rated as highly by the computer magazines as better known ones, but it has served me well—even prevented crashes from occurring. Two programs that win high praise are Symantec Norton SystemWorks 2000 ( www.symantec.com ) and Network Associates McAfee Office 2000 ( www.mcafee.com ).
