In August the Federation of Schools of Accountancy (FSA) found a new home. The FSAs administrative office will now be located in the New York office of the AICPA.
As part of the new arrangement, the Institute will serve as the administrator for the FSAs programs and activities. The AICPA donated office space to the FSA. Kimberly West, education coordinator for the AICPA academic and career development division, was named FSA administrator.
The alliance reflects the similarity of the educational goals of the AICPA and the FSA, said Bea Sanders, director of academic and career development for the AICPA. This was an opportunity for the AICPA to strengthen relations between the academic and practice communities, she said.
The FSA is a proponent of broadening accounting students knowledge via 150 semester hours, a proposal that is also endorsed by the AICPA. The FSAs mission is to support the development of accredited graduate programs in accounting. It has 76 member schools, each of which has an accredited accounting program; 83 affiliate members; and 28 private enterprise/nonprofit associates.
